Amazon Prime Video has officially announced that Hunters, an Amazon Prime drama series following a ragtag group of Nazi hunters, will end with season 2. Season 2 of Hunters will star newcomer Jennifer Jason Leigh alongside season 1 regulars Logan Lerman, Al Pacino, and Jerrika Hinton.
First premiering on Amazon Prime Video in 2020, Hunters takes place in an alternate version of the 1970s, where a group of ragtag Nazi hunters has banded together and taken it upon themselves to weed out the Nazis that have hidden in governments and high societies around the world. Season 1 of Hunters featured Logan Lerman (Perks of Being a Wallflower) as Jonah Heidelbaum, a Jewish mathematics genius who, after the death of his grandmother Ruth, learns that his grandmother had been a part of the Hunters, an underground group of Nazi hunters working to flush the Nazis out of hiding and hold them accountable for their crimes.
The ten-episode first season of Hunters concluded with the death of the Colonel, a high-ranking Nazi trying to start a Fourth Reich within the United States and restore the Nazis to their full power. Meanwhile, several earth-shattering secrets are revealed, including the true identity of Meyer Offerman (Pacino), a classified government operation to bring Nazis into the United States after World War II, and the biggest revelation of all: Adolf Hitler is still alive.
Everything We Know About ‘Hunters’ Season 2 on Amazon Prime
Hunters were renewed for season two in August 2020, according to Deadline, and the second season will follow the Hunters as they regroup two years after the first season and launch one last global offensive to take down Hitler (Udo Kier). With the news that Hunters season 2 will be its last, the hunt for Hitler is set to be the Hunters’ swan song – according to series creator David Weil, Hitler will have a “growing presence” in the show’s second season.
“For me, as a kid growing up on Long Island, being Jewish, there was always this frustration and anger that Hitler got away with his crimes, that he was never brought to justice, he was never arrested, killed, tried, that he made a decision at the end of his life,” Weil told Entertainment Weekly. “So Hunters, being a show about catharsis, about Jewish empowerment, and about wish fulfillment for Jewish kids like me who grew up wanting to reclaim power, season 2, I hope, will be that catharsis.”
Weil has also reassured fans of the show that he wouldn’t “invoke Hitler” unless the show was going to “deliver justice in some hopefully satisfying way.”
Season 2 of Hunters will be released to Amazon Prime Video on January 13th, 2023, per Deadline, and will reportedly star Jennifer Jason Leigh as Chava Apfelbaum, a top Nazi hunter. Jordan Peele will return as an executive producer along with Win Rosenfeld from Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions. David Ellender and Matt Loze will also serve as executive producers on behalf of Sonar Entertainment, who will produce the second season of Hunters alongside Amazon Studios.
Season 1 of Hunters is currently available on Amazon Prime Video.
