Other Information
The HyperX Mechanical Key Switches, in addition to having exposed LEDs, is custom-designed to have a balance in responsiveness and accuracy, with short travel time and low actuation force. HyperX states that these switches have a great reliability rating for 80 million keypresses with no loss of quality.
With an aluminum casing, the keyboard is considered to be very sturdy which enhances the quality of the overall product.
Another great feature is a game mode which makes the keyboard have 100% anti-ghosting and N-Key rollover. This lets you press all keys at the same time, with every keystroke registering and executing as fast as commanded.
The HyperX NGENUITY Software will assist you in customizing the keyboard to your preferred colors and settings. According to HyperX’s website, you can “create your own custom-designed lightshows, save them directly to the keyboard, and take them with you on the go.”
The compact size of the keyboard is one of its features and because it is meant to be smaller, there is no wrist rest.
What did my 11-year-old son have to say about it?
My son recently received a gaming computer for his birthday. This keyboard was the choice that was made for the system and today, I asked him what he thought about it.
Things he likes:
- Small size so he has more room for his mouse
- Options to customize the colors on the keyboard
- The sound it makes when he hits the keys Side Note: His mom (AKA me), things it is a little loud. Especially when he is in an intense game of Brawlhalla and Robeats! and it feels like he pounding on the keyboard! I may or may not have threatened to throw his new keyboard out the window.)
Things he does not like:
At first, he said nothing. But, then, when I told him to think about it, this was his answer…
- He has to keep the software open to keep the customized colors. When the software/app is turned off, the colors go back to the default rainbow color.
Pricing
The average price for the HyperX Alloy Origins Mechanical Gaming Keyboard is $109.99.
Verdict
The HyperX Alloy Origins Mechanical Keyboard is an amazing choice for a gaming keyboard. The compact size is great if you have a small surface to use and need more space for your mouse. The lighting is very bright and colorful and the customizations help you to make it the color you want it to be.
The noise level of the keystrokes is really not as loud as many of the other mechanical keyboards I have heard. Because of the small size, there are not pre-programmed or customized media keys, which some may not like. The price is a little high but comparable to other similar keyboards. The game mode is a nice feature as well. Overall, HyperX produced a very nice gaming keyboard.
