Jeez, this makes me feel old. I remember watching the original run of iCarly back when it aired back when I was still at school – I recently graduated from university. Now though, the nearly-10-year hiatus is over, with iCarly returning on Paramount+, with a new trailer dropping today. Miranda Cosgrove, who played the titular character of Carly Shay, Nathan Cress as Freddie, and Jerry Trainor as Spencer are all returning to the show, with Jenette McCurdy as Sam a notable absentee.
The iCarly return trailer shows off just a little of what new and returning fans will be able to expect from the reboot. Spencer and Freddie are back to help Carly run the show when she returns. The iCarly reboot series introduces a couple of new characters too, in the form of Harper, Carly’s roommate and new best friend (sorry Sam), played by Laci Mosley. Also new in the iCarly return is Millicent, Freddie’s newly-adopted stepdaughter, played by Jaidyn Triplett. Also returning are Mary Scheer as Freddie’s overly worrisome mother, Reed Alexander as Nevel Papperman, and Danielle Morrow as Nora Dershlit, Carly’s obsessive stalker super-fan.
Fans who took a particular obsession into the in-universe love life of Miranda Cosgrove’s Carly Shay may be disappointed to find out that she and Freddie never ended up together, and they’re both exploring their own relationships in this reboot, with many failed attempts ranging from Freddie’s mom to very loud gargling when drinking water.
Pleasingly for fans is the return of Spencer’s insanely pimped-out apartment, which has had a refresh between the original show on Nickelodeon and the new reboot on Paramount+. Something I may have missed when watching the original show is how Spencer and Carly were able to afford that massive apartment – fans have speculated that Carly and Spencer’s dad was helping out through his job at the US Air Force.
