Today, Xbox is kicking off a celebration for the anniversary of its ID@Xbox indie program. After nine years of operation, Xbox is looking towards the future to do even more. Announcing the celebration on the Xbox Wire, they looked towards the future with the program and Xbox Game Pass.
Bringing players to independent developers with ID@Xbox
Since ID@Xbox began, the program has brought independent developers billions of dollars in royalties. This is along with the doubling of the revenue generated by ID@Xbox partners. Xbox is also celebrating the other partnerships with their other programs.
“Since the program’s inception, independent developers have earned more than $2.5 billion in royalties, and total revenue generated by ID@Xbox partners on Xbox almost doubled over the last three years.”
Partnering with Xbox Game Pass has brought developers of various sizes, from start-up, single-person studios to veteran indies that already have successful games out there. In addition, bringing games like WrestleQuest, Escape Academy, or Tunic Xbox is looking to invest even more into the program.
Bringing more tools for developers to use
Microsoft has introduced ID@Azure, “A new program that was born out of feedback from developers.”
Led by former ID@Xbox team member Nick Ferguson is built to support developers of multiple platforms from iOS, Android, Switch, PlayStation, PC, and Xbox, of course. In addition, the ID@Azure service offers multiplayer services, including networking, voice & chat, and matchmaking. This comes along with developer support to help build their games further.
With the ID@Xbox celebration, Xbox is looking to build even further with their ID@Xbox program. There will be even more great independent games to come from the program. For Developers who are interested in the program, they can check it out at the Azure website.
