Adventurers, we’re going to have to wait a little long for Indy to return to the big screen. According to a report from Disney, Indiana Jones 5 has been delayed and has a new release date in 2023. Indiana Jones 5 was originally set to release on July 29, 2022, but it has been delayed until June 30, 2023. The news of this delay comes alongside the delay of various Marvel movies such Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, The Marvels, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and more.
The still-untitled Indiana Jones film was originally supposed to release in 2021. However, production was put on hold by COVID at the start. Then, 80-year-old Harrison Ford was seriously injured on set and had his arm in a sling for weeks. It was stated that production continued around Ford’s absence, but things still slowed.
A report from Deadline promised that the most recent Indiana Jones delay and Marvel delays had nothing to do with COVID or other injuries. The productions simply needed more time to complete the films or they’re trying to make the most of release schedules.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabottom), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal, Death Stranding), Thomas Krestschmann (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Boyd Holbrook (Logan), Toby Jones (Captain America), Shaunette Renée Wilson (Black Panther) and Antonio Banderas (The Mask of Zorro) will be starring alongside Harrison Ford in the new film.
James Mangold (Logan) is set to direct the film, and he co-wrote it Jez and John-Henry Butterworth. The Butterworth duo worked with Mangold on Ford vs. Ferrari. Plot details concerning the fifth Indiana Jones have not been revealed.
