Indie developer/publisher Chucklefish has built up some excellent goodwill. As a developer, they created the hugely successful Starbound, and they are working on two highly anticipated games in Witchbrook (formerly known as Spellbound) and Wargroove. As a publisher, they have brought us much-loved titles like Risk of Rain and Stardew Valley. You can add another game we’re anticipating to that latter category: they just announced a dark puzzle-platformer being developed by Hidden Layer Games. It’s called Inmost, and you can check out the announcement trailer below:
Oh, it looks cool. Like a very pretty Game Boy game had a baby with Dead Cells and Inside. I’m not sure how the logistics of that work, but I certainly like the sound of it.
Chucklefish hasn’t released too many details yet about Inmost, but a press release accompanying the trailer sheds a bit of light on the project. Here are the basics:.
- It is being touted as a dark, story-driven puzzle platformer. The story looks to jump between two different worlds and, judging from the trailer and the announcement, those worlds look like a mysterious castle and a village.
- There are three playable characters, and they all share an interconnected story. Again, we’re guessing, but it looks like the three playable characters are a bearded man, a younger girl, and a more traditional “adventurer” with a sword.
- Inmost is creepy and dark with some beautiful pixel graphics and animation.
Inmost‘s development team is a two-person squad called Hidden Layer Games. They are based out of Lithuania, and Inmost is their first major release. Judging from Chucklefish’s track record, Inmost is definitely one to keep an eye on. It is scheduled to release in 2019, although we do not yet know which platforms it will release on. Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
