The new Intellivision Amico is due to launch on 10/10/2020 and fans seem to be on board as a founders edition pre-order campaign completely sold out. Initially, the console was due to launch with 5 titles built-in, but that is no more as today that number has increased to 6.
The Amico is designed to bring retro-inspired, family-friendly co-op gaming back to our living rooms with up to 8 players at any one time and I’m excited to see more.
As of now, the 6th title has yet to be announced, but the other 5 pre-installed games are as follows:
- SKIING – An 8 player game where players compete for the best times across ten different slopes.
- SHARK SHARK – A reimagined version of the original title with plenty of ocean to explore.
- ASTROSMASH – The classic Intellivision hit.
- CORNHOLE – A home console version of what is essentially bean bag toss.
- FARKLE – A ice rolling board game for the whole family.
I realize my descriptions leave something to be desired, so how about a gameplay trailer:
Additional games will be available from the store ranging from $2.99 to $9.99 with every game available for the Amico rated as E10+, there will be no naughty words here.
President of European Operations, Hans Ippisch, had this to say about the increase of games:
“By increasing the number of pack-in games from five to six we further enhance the incredible value of our Intellivision Amico family entertainment system. With two controllers already in the package and the ability to use a smartphone as a controller (thanks to a free downloadable app) up to eight players can get straight into the fun right after turning on the machine for the first time”
Those of you that missed out on the founders’ edition fear not as the VIP edition pre-order program launches from tomorrow. This gives people the chance to get hold of the Vintage Woodgrain model again as well as giving access to the Graphic Black or Glacier White versions.
The Vintage model costs $279 while the other two will be $249.
I look forward to seeing more from the Amico in the months leading up to launch. Let us know in the comments if you’re excited or if you’ve pre-ordered one already.
