If you’re into interactive fiction games, you may remember Behind the Frame, which launched on PC and mobile last year. It tells the story of an artist who is in the process of finishing an art piece. The game’s Steam page calls Behind the Frame “a relaxing, eloquent experience that can be played at any pace.” Now, more players can enjoy the experience. Behind the Frame launched on PS4 and Nintendo Switch today, alongside some new content.
The PS4 and Nintendo Switch Ports Strive to Give an Engaging Interactive Fiction Experience
According to today’s press release, the team who ported Behind the Frame to PS4 and Switch worked hard to make Behind the Frame feels truly interactive on the new platforms.
“‘Through the new console releases, we wanted to ensure Behind the Frame received treatment that made playing it a new experience – one that felt engaging and natural,’ said Dean Razavi, Senior Producer at Akupara Games and Technical Lead on the console ports. ‘Rather than just wiggling a thumbpad back and forth to add strokes of paint, we wanted to bring the paint directly to the hands of new players eager to jump into the world and its story.'”
The PS4 and Switch versions of the game make use of their respective consoles to make the game more interactive. Players can use the DUALSHOCK and Joy-Cons to play the game. Those who prefer a more hands-on approach have options, too. Much like their mobile counterparts, these ports feature touch input. This is accomplished on the Switch via the system’s touch screen, and on the PS4 with the DUALSHOCK’s touchpad.
Today’s release also included a new unlockable side story for all players. According to today’s announcement on Steam, this new story introduces a new character and can be played after finishing the main game.
“In parallel to the events of Behind the Frame, another adventurous painter seeks to pave his own path, learn more about the world of art, and stay in touch with a cherished loved one. The new story is entirely free for anyone who owns Behind the Frame!”
This interactive fiction game, Behind the Frame, is available on iOS, Android, PC, Mac, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
