Classic video games formed the bedrock of gaming as we know it today. From Super Mario Bros to Sonic the Hedgehog, gamers would flock to arcades, home consoles, and computers in order to play their favorite adventures. With the passage of time, many of these games are lost to us as our consoles and titles finally stop working. However, the Internet Archive is preserving those classics, and it just added a whopping number of titles.
Internet Archive: A Classic Gamer’s Delight
The Internet Archive has added 2500 games to its MS-DOS software library. Many memorable games such as Street Fighter II and Pac-Man are now available for free to millions of users. While it is impossible to list every title without several hours of work, here are a few of the games you can enjoy:
- Donkey Kong
- Oregon Trail
- SimCity
- Batman Returns (Sega Genesis Version)
- Double Dragon
- Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?
The Internet Archive a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving worldwide content in digital form. Their website boasts millions of web pages, books, videos, and more. The Archive also collects software programs in a library, with many of those programs being classic video games from the 80s and 90s. Games from various platforms such as NES, Genesis, and Windows are all in one location.
The Internet Archive has many more software programs to offer. Some users with Windows 10 may have to go through additional steps in order to run DOS games on their computers. With that being said, I know that I will be going back to the site to see the many classics it now offers to users. Hopefully, you can find the games you are looking for as well!
