Respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted yet another evolution iPhone users can expect. The new iPhone may very well follow recent phone trends and implement three cameras. This along with several other predictions featured as part of Kuo’s market research notes via 9to5mac.
Ming-Chi Kuo, of TF International Securities, has a tendency to be right with his predictions. In the past, he has accurately predicted entire product line releases such as the iPad Mini and Air as well as the announcement of the Apple Watch. Perhaps more impressively, he has been correct about smaller, more specific details like when he said: “The fifth-gen iPad will be significantly thinner and lighter with new bezel, 7.5mm thickness, and 64-bit A7X processor,” in 2013.
Currently, the iPhone features two cameras but Kuo reckons the next line of iPhones will come with a third ultra wide angle lens too. This isn’t too wild a prediction though as competitors, including Samsung, already feature three cameras on their phones. Having several lenses greatly increases image quality and with Apple’s desire to lead technology forward it only seems natural this would be their next step.
The other major technology jump Kuo predicts is a feature called “reverse charging”. Reverse charging allows you to use your phone as a wireless power bank to charge up other devices. This already features on some newer Android phones and now it seems Apple will follow suit.
Also, Kuo says that Apple is aiming to improve its facial recognition technology as well as stick with the current lightning chargers. The latter prediction is worrying as USB-C is a better, more widely used and versatile input type yet Apple may refuse to implement it. These anti-consumer practices are disappointing and a primary reason why I personally do not buy into Apple products.
The article suggests two new iPad Pros could be on their way, the launch of an easy to upgrade 16 inch MacBook Pro and wireless charging for the AirPods 2. Clearly a busy year ahead for the world’s biggest conglomerate tech company.
Judging from previous years, the iPhone will likely be launched around September of this year. Price estimates can only be guessed right now but I don’t need to be an analyst to tell you they’ll be expensive.
