Like any big release that is not on Steam but available on PC, people will be wondering how they can make Diablo 4 playable on their Steam Deck. While there are many perks to Valve’s handheld device, if a game is not on Steam, it can be impossible or, at least, a hassle to play it on the go. At least at launch, it will not be on Switch, so tinkering around on the Steam Deck might be able to make it work. Whether you are a tech genius or not, you can figure it out with simple steps.
How to Make Diablo 4 Playable on Steam Deck
To make a non-Steam game playable on Steam Deck, like Diablo 4, you need to download one of the many tools that can open the door. It is all about making Battle.net compatible with the device. Proton, Lutris, and other tools can let you play plenty of non-Steam games. We will focus on Lutris, but you can tweak your system with other applications to work the same way. Even if you stray from our guide, you should use a keyboard and mouse to make life easier. It is not vital, but it will make things go smoother.
- Go to Desktop Mode and click Discover from the taskbar or All Apps tab.
- Search for Lutris and install it.
- Open Lutris and click on the + icon in the top left to add a game. Search for Battle.net and install it.
- Install Diablo 4 (or any other Blizzard game) from Battle.net as you would on PC onto your Steam Deck.
- Launch Steam desktop in Desktop Mode.
- Go to the games tab and click Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library.
- In the new window that is Add a Game in your software list, then select Lutris.
Be mindful of the PC requirements of Diablo 4 when playing on the Steam Deck. Like many Blizzard games, you can use a high-end build to push the visuals and frame rate, but it is modest in what it requires of PC players. For the handheld device, it should run the RPG well enough to get a respectable framerate.
Diablo 4 will release on June 6 for PS4 and 5, Xbox One, Series X|S, and PC. For Deluxe or Ultimate orders, you can play it on June 2.
