Are you one of those movie-goers who just can’t get enough of IT? Considering the first movie dominated at the box office and that Chapter Two sits directly below it as the second-biggest horror movie opening weekend ever, chances are the answer to that question is ‘yes.’ And director Andy Muschietti has some fantastic news for you.
While speaking with Syfy Wire, Muschietti stated that he plans to create one giant supercut of both movies. This will include additional scenes that didn’t make it into the final cut for It: Chapter Two. The original cut for that was a whopping 4 hours long. Though the theatrical release still managed to be just under 3 hours. But he’s going one step beyond that. He plans to shoot entirely new scenes to add to this supercut, which could wind up being around 7 hours.
“I’m intending to make a supercut, which is a version of this story that includes both movies, with all of the material not included in the release, in the theatrical release or the digital release. And possibly a couple of scenes that I haven’t shot yet.”
When asked to clarify that he’d be sticking around the IT world, the director simply said, “Yes. I’m not done.”. Stephen King’s classic novel is literally 1,138 pages. So there is plenty more that Muschietti could include. One of the most frequently sited exclusions in the film adaptations is Maturin, a cosmic turtle that helps the Losers defeat Pennywise. Yeah, things get weird.
Muschietti didn’t go on to say what these new scenes would be or if he would need any of the main cast in order to film them. But he’s also spoken on the prospect of a third movie.
“Mythology is something that always has opportunities to explore. It has been on Earth for millions of years. He’s been in contact with humans for hundreds of years, every 27 years. So you can imagine the amount of material.”
