“Throw Diablo and Terraria into a blender and you’d get It Lurks Below“. That’s how a friend describes the new game from Diablo creator David Brevik to me. And looking at the game in action, that doesn’t seem to be inaccurate. Its Steam page calls it a survival RPG in a randomly generated world. You create a character from one of eight different classes and dive in. In action, It Lurks Below does look incredibly similar to Terraria. However, it seems to lean much more heavily into combat and character progression. That said, It Lurks Below does allow all the crafting and building that you would expect out of a game like this.
Steam players have given It Lurks Below very positive reviews so far. The game has been in early access since April 2018. And in that time it has developed a great community that has frequent interactions with the developer. Diablo creator David Brevik has taken in a ton of feedback and has made constant improvements to the game based on this.
“I’m flattered by the overwhelmingly positive response I received during Early Access and my personal streams of It Lurks Below. The experience of developing this game with the passionate community has been wonderful. I read every piece of feedback I receive, and directly interact with the community every day. There is so much fun packed into this game.” – David Brevik
I’m a big fan of Terraria, Minecraft, and Starbound. So, I’m definitely going to check this out. I’m excited to see how the mechanics of a pure action-RPG like Diablo feel when they are combined with the survival elements of this genre. It wouldn’t surprise me if I ended up sinking hundreds of hours into it. You can get It Lurks Below for $19.99. It is available on Windows PC via Steam.
