Jamie Clayton has been cast to play the nefarious Pinhead in the new Hulu Hellraiser movie reboot. According to Deadline, they have partnered up with the Spyglass Media Group for this hellish reboot that is being helmed by David Bruckner with Clive Barker, the original author of The Hellbound Heart book, onboard as a producer. Peter Oillataguerre, the President of Production for Spyglass, and Chris Stone, the Vice President of Production & Development for Spyglass, will be overseeing the production on behalf of Spyglass Media Group.
Hell Hath No Fury Like Pinhead
Clayton is the first woman to play the prickly-headed fiend. Pinhead had been played by Doug Bradley from the franchise’s first film, Hellraiser, which was released in 1986, all the way to its most recent film, Hellraiser: Judgment, which premiered recently in 2018. You may know Clayton from her appearances in Sense8, The L Word: Generation Q, and she has also done voice-over work for Mass Effect: Andromeda and Bojack Horseman.
Oillataguerre said in a comment in regards to the new:
Next year marks the 35th anniversary since Hellraiser first haunted our dreams. It’s only fitting to come full circle in collaborating with Clive, the original creator and master of visionary horror. We look forward to working with our partners at Hulu in bringing this unique take on the original to new audiences.”
I don’t know how the gender swap will affect the movie, whether it will be noted that this new Hellraiser is a woman, or if they will just play it like normal as if nothing has changed. Since the character is a known commodity, I imagine this possible new Pinhead will do away with the old one, setting aflame a new era for the Hellraiser series. I’m very interested to see what Jamie Clayton can bring to Pinhead.
