In addition to being one of this generation’s hottest movie stars, Jason Momoa is adding screenwriter credits to his ever-growing Hollywood resume. Deadline reports that Apple TV + has just greenlit Chief Of War, a new limited series that has Jason Momoa wearing any hats. The Aquaman is the co-writer, star, and executive producer of the series, making it the first TV show the actor has ever written.
Chief Of War And The Many Ways It Connects To Jason Momoa
Chief Of War is a historical drama created by Momoa and writer Thomas Pa’a Sibbett. The Apple TV + series will mark the 3rd collaborative effort between the duo. The twosome first worked together on 2018’s Brazen and again on the upcoming western The Last Manhunt, in which Momoa also writes, stars, and produces.
Momoa and Sibbett will executive produce Chief Of War with Erik Holmberg (Fargo) and series showrunner Doug Jung (The Cloverfield Paradox). Francis Lawrence, Peter Chernin, and Jenno Topping are also executive producers for the series, all of which have worked with Momoa on See.
Deadline reports that Chief Of War will tell the story of “the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view.”
The project appears to have a personal connection to Momoa. According to IMDB, Hawaii is where the action star landed his first acting role on the hit tv series Baywatch. Momoa’s family is also of Hawaiian descent.
Jason Momoa has already found mass-market success with Apple’s streaming service– he currently stars in the Apple TV + original See. In addition to winning awards for its visual effects, the show has also been renewed for a third season. Like See, Chief Of War will only be 8 episodes long.
Justin Chon (Twilight Saga) is currently being considered to direct Chief Of War’s first two episodes.
