Jensen Ackles has signed onto a new role, one that may not come as a surprise to fans of his. That’s right, Jensen Ackles takes his first western role in the upcoming Rust. He announced the news with a Tweet earlier today. Anyone who watched Supernatural will remember that there were a few iconic episodes where Ackles went full cowboy. Turns out, Ackles himself is quite a fan of Westerns. Fans are interested to see what he brings to the table in a true Western setting. Let’s take a look at the new role Jensen Ackles will be in for the Western genre.
Where Does Ackles Fit Into Rust?
Rust is an upcoming Western focusing on Harland Rust, an outlaw played by Alec Baldwin. His grandson Lucas is sentenced to hang for a crime he didn’t commit, so Rust takes action. After breaking his grandson out of prison, they’re on the run in classic Western style. The long arm of the law isn’t far behind, with U.S. Marshall Wood Helm and bounty hunter Fenton Lang on their tails. This is where our cowboy-crazed buddy comes in. Ackles will be playing counter to Baldwin as Marshall Helm himself. It’s sure to be a major role in the western movie and Ackles is plenty excited to take it.
Jensen Continues a Trail of Powerhouse Work
Rust is one of the first major movie roles since Jensen Ackles finished Supernatural last year. That said, the actor has been plenty busy since. Before the show even ended, he had signed on as a hero in the upcoming season 3 of The Boys on Amazon Prime. He is set to appear as Soldier Boy and will have a decent amount of importance there.
Beyond that, Ackles has even taken on some production roles lately. Though Supernatural is over, a spin-off called The Winchesters is in the works. Ackles and his wife Danneel spearhead the project as executive producers. Ackles himself will also be returning to narrate as Dean Winchester. Though the show won’t have Sam or Dean directly, it has drawn some attention from forlorn fans. With so much on his plate, Ackles is far from his last yee haw.
