Physical roles in movies and TV shows can take a lot out of actors as they train. In an interview with Esquire, Jeremy Allen White talked about his “gross” diet to train for his boxing role in the A24 film, The Iron Claw. The leading star of The Bear had to not only intensely exercise but constantly eat at all times of the day.
While it may sound tasty to some people, the diet Jeremy Allen White had to adopt got difficult by how much he had to eat. For breakfast, he would have waffles with almond butter. By lunchtime, he would eat countless turkey patties and avocados. To him, looking at how you would have to live to maintain this body, he found it “no way to live.”
“It’s really just gross. You’re trying to consume as much as you possibly can, and, to be honest, you don’t feel great. I was training as well, but, I don’t know, trying to get that big, no way to live.”

The upcoming biopic is about the Van Enrich family, who made a major impact on boxing. Sean Durkin (Dead Ringers) wrote and directed the film. It stars Lily James (Pam & Tommy), Zac Efron, Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man), Holt McCallany (Mindhunter), and Maura Tierney (ER).
Working on an athletic film that requires intense working out and a strict diet, Jeremy Allen White got some insight from Efron. The fit actor was described as a “maniac” for how “knowledgable” he was in the process of getting one’s body ready for a film. While everyone worked hard, the High School Musical star “blew us out of the water” and “looks really amazing.”
Fans of Jeremy Allen White will see a new form of his as we see what this diet and exercise did for his body. He is best known for completely different roles in Shameless and The Bear. The upcoming boxing film is set to release this year, but we have no concrete date.
