According to Deadline, Jim Carrey is in talks with Paramount to play the role of Dr. Ivo āEggmanā Robotnik in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog live-action/CGI movie.
More commonly known as Dr. Eggman, Ivo Robotnik is the arch-enemy of Sonic the Hedgehog. Having an IQ over 300, Robotnik creates exotic machines in order to stop Sonic and attempt to conquer the world. His goal is to create his own personal utopia (which has taken on many names over the years such as Eggmanland, Robotropolis, Robotnik Empire, Eggman Empire, etc.).
Jim Carrey is not the first person to sign on to this live-action/CGI film either. Both James Marsden (Westworld, X-Men series) and Tika Sumpter (Ride Along series) have already signed on to star in the project as well.
Paramount obtained the film rights for Sonic the Hedgehog back in 2017 after Sony let the rights slip through their fingers. Paramount then quickly brought Jeff Fowler in to direct the film. This will also be Fowlerās first theatrical debut as a director.
Along with Jeff Fowler, Tim Miller (Deadpool) and Toby Ascher will act as the filmās executive producers. Dan Jevons (We Happy Few) and Dmitri M. Johnson (We Happy Few) will co-produce.
Sonic first debuted back in 1991 and over time he has become one of the most memorable characters in video game history. Since its debut, the series has sold over 360 million copies.
Sonic the Hedgehog is set to release November 15th, 2019 and will be the first appearance for the supersonic hedgehog on the big screen.
