A platforming switch will not stop the John Wick prequel series The Continental as it moves to Peacock. The miniseries was initially set to premiere on Starz. The show will release sometime in 2023, the same year as the next film of the Keanu Reeves-led action series.
Labeled as an “event,” The Continental will be a three-episode show that will go back in time to the early days of the hotel of the same name. In the films, it is a safe haven for assassins, although its strict rules about no business on hotel grounds do not stop the bloodshed in its rooms. Based on Ian McShane’s character, we will see a young Winston Scott, played by Colin Woodell (The Flight Attendant). Taking place in 1975, fans will see how he navigates the criminal underworld of New York City and becomes the owner of the hotel.

In The Continental, we will see new faces and young versions of characters that fans have come to know over the course of the three films and continue to know in the next installment. We will see a young Charon, Lance Reddick’s character, played by Aymoide Adegun, marking his acting debut right behind The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. It will also star Mel Gibson, Katie McGrath (Supergirl), Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction), Adam Shapiro (Mank), Jeremy Bobb (The Outsider), and Jessica Allain (Texas Chainsaw Massacre).
The Continental was created by Kirk Ward (Wayne), Shane Simmons (Wayne), and Greg Coolidge (Ride Along), who will all serve as head writers and executive producers. Coolidge and Ward are the showrunners. Albert Hughes, Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Chad Stahelski, Derek Kolstad, David Leitch, Shawn Simmons, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Marshall Persinger also executive produce. Hughes (The Book of Eli) will direct the first and third episodes, with Charlotte Brändström (The Unlikely Murderer) helms the second.
No concrete date was given for The Continental. Either way, John Wick fans will not have long before Chapter 4, as it releases on March 24, 2023.
