The Joker is a movie that took the DC universe by storm. Releasing in 2019, this stand-alone movie took our favorite clown prince of crime and made him the main event. Throughout the movie, we see the Joker devolve into madness and crime. And by the end, it became something worthy of the most profitable comic movie ever. Since then, fans have been ravenous for a sequel. Even director Todd Phillips has come back to be involved. However, it seems that the Joker sequel just can’t get a script together. And with this, it has been announced that production for the Joker sequel is halted until that can change.
The Sequel Has Plenty to Go Off for Joker’s Dynasty
Joker was an excellent look into the origin of Batman’s most famous villain. Everything that Batman stands for, Joker is the opposite. That said, Joker’s legacy has just started. At the end of the first movie, he had only begun committing crimes and gathering a following. By this logic, the Joker sequel should have plenty to go off of for a script. He has yet to organize his circus of clowns and mission to bring the whole world down with him.
Conversely, it doesn’t seem like the cast and crew are in a rush to complete the Joker’s second round. Joaquin Phoenix was heavily affected by his method of acting. And Phillips thinks that the second movie faces a conundrum on its own. With such a strong start, where exactly is the right direction to go from here? Furthermore, as a stand-alone, it’s hard to bring in the big Bat without some additional challenges. These reasons may be why the Joker sequel has halted production. Furthermore, we know very little beyond this for such an anticipated film. The Joker sequel is still slated for 2023, but this may very well change soon. Let’s hope for good news down the line.
