After months of uncertainty about season 2 of Outer Range, the Amazon neo-western series with Josh Brolin, the renewal has been greenlit. The second outing will have a new showrunner, Charles Murray (Luke Cage), who takes the reins from creator Brian Watkins. Murray has an overall deal with Amazon Studios.
Outer Range follows Josh Brolin, a Wyoming rancher struggling to keep his land from competitors, settle with family drama, and a mysterious hole he discovers, which takes him to another time. The sci-fi western also starred Imogen Poots (The Father), Lili Taylor (The Conjuring), Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Tamara Podemski (Coroner), Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick), Noah Reid (Schitt’s Creek), Will Patton (Yellowstone), and Olive Abercrombie (Stargirl).

The eight-episode first season of Outer Range was executive produced by Josh Brolin, Murray, Watkins, Zev Borow, Heather Rae, Tony Krantz, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ernest McNealey, and Brad Pitt.
The star-studded Amazon series received positive critic reviews but not as much from audiences. Reviews from critics and audiences did find similar feelings on the show’s highs and lows. On Rotten Tomatoes, the critic score was 81%, with applauds for the cast and premise but plenty of criticism toward the subplots that sidelined its sci-fi premise. The audience score was 59%, which showed that people seemed to like the ideas, setting, and cast, but its pacing and focus on family drama soured what could have been a well-received sci-fi western.
Besides Outer Range, Josh Brolin is known for No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Sicario, The Goonies, Deadpool 2, Dune, Avengers: Infinity War, and Endgame. He is currently filming Dune: Part Two, which is set to release next year. He is also set to star in the film Brothers with Peter Dinklage, Brendan Fraser, and Glenn Close. The comedy will be directed by Max Barbakow (Palm Springs).
