Julia Lemigova and Martina Navratilova had to put their adoption plans on hold after the tennis legend’s cancer diagnosis that revealed her stage 1 throat cancer and breast cancer in 2022.
Lemigova and Navratilova have come a long way in their love journey. The duo began dating in 2006 and Navratilova popped the question during the US Open in September 2013.
A year later, Julia Lemigova and Martina Navratilova tied the knot in New York City. Speaking to news outlets after the marriage, Lemigova claimed she was “overwhelmed,” while Navratilova said her new status “felt very odd.”
The pair have enjoyed a long-lasting relationship that has produced several special moments. In 2021 they joined “The Real Housewives of Miami,” becoming the first same-sex couple on the franchise.
However, they have had their fair share of challenges. Earlier in the year, the tennis star was diagnosed with both stage 1 throat cancer and breast cancer. Navratilova, 66, was previously diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010 but made a swift recovery.

Julia Lemigova And Martina Navratilova Stop Adoption Plans
During the current season of “The Real Housewives of Miami,” Lemigova made plans on adopting another child with her wife Navratilova. Lemigova claimed she felt sad and lonely after her daughters Victoria, 21, and Emma, 17, moved out of the house.
The former USSR model has now revealed that Martina Navratilova’s cancer diagnosis put their adoption plans “on hold.”
Lemigova made the revelations during the second part of Thursday’s “RHOM” reunion. The 50-year-old reality star claimed she and Navratilova are no longer actively trying to adopt as they are fully focused on the tennis star’s recovery.
She said:
“When you’re adopting a child, it has to be about the child. And right now it’s everything about Martina and for her getting health. We’re putting it on hold.”
Lemigova went on to reveal how they were waiting to receive the good news from the agency before they got the diagnosis. The reality star lamented how difficult it has been dealing with not just one but two cancer diagnoses.
Later, Lemigova thanked all her RHOM cast members and host Andy Cohen for all their support. She went on to say that her wife Navratilova was going through a really difficult time at the moment.
Martina Navratilova’s latest cancer diagnosis came after she discovered an enlarged lymph node on her neck. Due to the early detection, there is a lot of optimism that she would be able to beat cancer for the second time.
