Universal has released the 5-minute prologue from the upcoming Jurassic World: Dominion. Dominion is the third entry in the Jurassic World franchise and will continue where the story left off in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom when the dinosaurs were unleashed into the wild. The prologue features a sprawling showcase of dinosaurs back when they roamed the Earth along with a sequence featuring dinosaurs in the present day.
The prologue initially debuted as an IMAX exclusive with F9 and it is an impressive display of visual effects as we see an entire landscape filled with dinosaurs. The effects look similar to Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King where everything is animated but it looks incredibly realistic. It portrays what life was like for various dinosaurs back when they ruled the world. There are herds of triceratops roaming across the water and T-Rex’s battling for dominance. Then we go 65 million years into the future to the present day where dinosaurs are now loose in our world. A helicopter chases a T-Rex through the woods before it ends up rampaging through a drive-in movie theater.
While this footage does look impressive and gives a good preview of what’s to come in this sequel, this footage is reportedly not in the movie, according to Slashfilm. This is similar to the 2019 short film, The Battle of Big Rock, which showed a dinosaur attack on a family camping out in the woods. Both the short film and this prologue for Jurassic World: Dominion are entertaining and hopefully, the movie itself can match this level of dinosaur chaos.
Jurassic World: Dominion is expected to land in theaters on June 10, 2022. It will be directed by Colin Trevorrow and will star franchise regulars, Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard. Also returning are original cast members from the first Jurassic Park, Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum, who had a small cameo in Fallen Kingdom.
