The Justice League are DC Comics’ Greatest Heroes. Consequently, they’re also some of its most powerful. But the latest issue of Justice League has many Leaguers’ powers reaching new heights—and not all of them seem to know how to handle it.
**SPOILERS for Justice League #61 by Brian Michel Bendis, David Marquez, and Tamra Bonvillain**
Following up on the events of the last issue, the Justice League has traveled to the homeworld of Naomi in pursuit of the villain known as Brutus. Brutus has been repeatedly attacking Earth, so now the Justice League is bringing the fight to him. They travel to Brutus’ world of origin and find a wasteland destroyed by years of superpowered conflict. Arriving in separate locations, they realize that the environment affects their powers in different ways.
Black Canary’s sonic scream is heightened to the point where it surprises even her. Justice League newcomer Naomi’s hands disappear even though she can still feel them. Additionally, Superman’s heat vision is so powerful that he’s afraid to open his eyes and hurt someone. Meanwhile, Hawkgirl says that she feels so good that she’s almost tipsy. Unfortunately, this world seemingly overwhelms Aquaman. He even mysteriously passes out after sensing death. Batman and Green Arrow seem to be the only Justice League members unaffected by this world’s environment.
On the other hand, Brutus defeats Black Adam before we can get a look at what this new dimension is empowering Adam’s magical form. Unfortunately for the team, these new abilities don’t seem to be enough to take on Brutus. Fans will have to wait until the next issue to see whether or not the Justice League can come out on top.
What did you think about this latest issue? How do you feel about Brutus as a villain? Do you think DC Comics’ Justice League will be able to use their new powers to take him down? Let’s discuss this in the comments below.
