Star and co-creator of Rick and Morty and the recent video game High on Life, Justin Roiland, is facing felony domestic violence charges in Orange County, California, from a criminal complaint filed against him in May 2020 by the OC District Attorney, which he ended up pleading not guilty to the claims.
Today he appeared in court for a pre-trial hearing. 42-year-old Justin Roiland was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one count of false imprisonment by violence, menace, fraud, and/or deceit. No trial was set after today’s pre-trial hearing, but another is scheduled for April 27.
The filing against the Rick and Morty co-creator was filed by an anonymous woman who was dating him. Jane Doe’s complaint stated the incident occurred around or on January 19, 2020.

When the domestic violence case came up in 2020, Justin Roiland was arrested in May 2020 and later released on a $50,000 bond in August. In October, he was arraigned. Since then, the case has been facing many court and pre-trial hearings.
Upon the arraignment, protective orders were filed, which state that the actor must not harass, threaten, or surveil the person named in the filed order. He must also keep a distance of at least 100 feet away from the person. He had to turn in any guns he had owned or had in his possession. The order will last until October of this year.
NBC was the first to report the news about domestic charges facing Justin Roiland. In that report, details about filings and more have been uncovered that are being sealed from the public. In that, there will be details of police bodycams, police reports, abuse investigation reports, medical reports, and recorded interviews.
Justin Roiland and his attorneys have not made a comment about the domestic violence case. It is confirmed that there is a plea deal on the table, but no details are known about said deal. Adult Swim, Warner Bros. Discovery, and his video game studio Squanch Games have not made a statement.
