The seventh (now annual) Kadokawa manga awards have fixed and opened their English website to accept international votes. This news comes after the official launch date of Friday, but the website had crashed due to the influx of people accessing the server. Submissions for print and web manga categories will be open until May 21. After, the voting period for the winner will start on June 18 and end on July 2 at 11:00 (JST).
The awards are accepting user submissions with the potential to be the next biggest hits and will choose from the most popular titles as the nominees. From there, the international votes and Japanese votes from manga fans determine the winner.
Criteria For Submitting a Title
Being able to submit any title comes with a catch, however. For the first round, the website will only accept the Japanese title of manga. The final voting process will accept both English and Japanese titles. Only titles serialized in Japan with no more than five printed volumes are acceptable. At the same time, only works serialized after January 1, 2020 are acceptable. Any genre can be considered, but titles ranked in the top three of previous years are unable to be considered.
Why The Kadokawa Manga Awards Matter
Undead Unluck (for the print category )and The Dangers in My Heart (for the web manga category) were the winners of last year’s awards. The award and the privileges that come with winning are co-organized by Kadokawa Media Factory’s manga magazine Da Vinci, and the streaming services Niconico. The final winners are announced on August 24.
These awards specifically have contributed to the rise in fame for many popular titles such as My Hero Academia and Love is Difficult for an Otaku, which has been respectively gained their own anime series after winning. Other past titles that have not won the top spot included The Ancient Magus’ Bride, Orange, and Himouto! Umaru-chan.
