Ahead of his scheduled visit to Australia to meet his new wife Bianca Censori‘s family, Kanye West has one more bridge to burn. The rap mogul, who tied the knot with the Australian designer earlier this month, may reportedly be denied entry into the country, owing to his history of anti-Semitic rants and praise of Hitler, which earned him the wrath of social media users and the Jewish community.
According to TMZ, government officials weighed in on the subject ahead of the planned family visit, noting that his visa application may be rejected. By implication, the rapper’s visit to his wife’s native Melbourne for a get-together with her family may, in fact, never come to fruition.
Why Kanye West’s Visit to Australia May Be In Jeopardy
News outlets previously reported that Kanye West planned to visit Australia with Bianca Censori next week, for a family get-together. While there has been no word on the status of his visa application, the country’s Education Minister, Jason Carie has established that if he does apply, he had to go through the same rigorous quizzing process as everyone else.
Given his previous anti-semitic comments and Australia’s history of shunning applicants with anti-Semitic beliefs, he does not stand a chance. Peter Wertheim, a co-chief of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry also gave his verdict, telling Sky News:
“We’ve made the case that this particular individual does not meet the character test and that it would be in the national interest not to grant him a visa, and we set out our reasons in some detail.”
While these major stakeholders of the country’s affairs have openly voiced their opposition to Kanye West and his wife’s visit to Australia, the final decision rests on the shoulders of the country’s Immigration Minister, Andrew Giles. Given how much the star had been vilified in the wake of his anti-Semitic comments, it is safe to say the odds are against him.
