Square-Enix, makers of the long-running Final Fantasy series, announced details today on the Third Anniversary Celebration for Final Fantasy: Brave Exivius. The celebration will reward players with various bonuses, including an appearance by pop music star Katy Perry. The announcement came via a press release.
For the uninitiated, Final Fantasy: Brave Exivius is a mobile game of the Gatcha variety. In the game, players collect Final Fantasy characters, both original to the game and classic, and put them in an automated battle against various dungeon monsters and bosses. With over 39 million downloads the game is one Square-Enix’s biggest hits and a major money maker for the publisher.
Perry, best known for appearing on stage with the Left Shark, as well as songs like Firework, Roar, and Never Really Over, will appear as “Immortal Flame Katy”. The new playable character will be free, for a limited time, and is original to the Exivius setting of Lapis. Immortal Flame, Perry’s latest song, will also be played in the game’s Anniversary stages. This will be the pop star’s second appearance in the game but her first as this specific playable character.
In addition to Katy Perry, the anniversary event will feature:
- Daily login bonuses
- Returning player bonuses
- Summoning tickets (used for adding characters to a player’s roster)
- Free units
- New playable units
- New dungeons, new boss battles
- Player vote on returning campaigns
- Stamina used in story quests halved for the event’s duration.
In addition to the press release, Final Fantasy: Brave Exivius producer Kei Hirono and global version producer Hiroki Fujimoto appeared on a live stream event for the game. This event was hosted in Los Angeles California and an archive of the stream can be watched here.
In parallel to the anniversary event, Brave Exivius players can participate in the Collection of Mana crossover event which has been running since E3 last month. The crossover, including special characters, dungeons, and bosses, is a tie in to the upcoming Collection of Mana for Nintendo Switch, available August 27, 2019. The Switch title is a collection of previously unreleased games in the Secret of Mana universe. The crossover will expire on June 3.
Final Fantasy: Brave Exivius is a free-to-play app (with lots of in-app purchases) available on the iOS app store and Google Play store as well as the Amazon app store. Find more Final Fantasy news here and here.
What musical act would you put in Final Fantasy?
I think GWAR would make a pretty cool boss fight.
