Nintendo has officially announced the reveal of the newest fighter to join the ranks of the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster via their Nintendo Direct E3 presentation – Kazuya Mishima of Tekken fame. The Bandai Namco fighter and original protagonist of the Tekken series was announced in a dramatic trailer depicting Kazuya dropping Ganon, Captain Falcon, and Pit off an ominous cliff into a sea of lava below. He may have even tossed poor Kirby down into the fiery depths (to little success). This reveal played on Kazuya’s storyline from Tekken, where he has been thrown into a river of lava himself (as well as possibly turning the situation around at a later time).
Besides the announcement of Kazuya’s addition, we got very few details from Nintendo’s E3 Smash reveal. The planned release date for Kazuya is still unannounced, with an upcoming presentation by game director Masahiro Sakurai likely to give us some of the finer details surrounding his introduction to the game. This presentation will be taking place on June 28, 7:00 am PT and 10:00 am E.T. It is likely to be released through the typical Nintendo channels. Masahiro humorously noted that they may still need to record the video.
Besides that, we only have a few details from the E3 reveal on what Kazuya will be bringing to Smash Bros Ultimate. We got a chance to see some of his moves, which included some familiar techniques from his time in Tekken. There was a preview of his devil form, which will likely end up being incorporated into his final smash in some way or another. Kazuya’s father, Heihachi Mishima, was also shortly displayed during the reveal and is likely to be incorporated into the addition in some way.
