Now, here’s a little cross-promotion that nobody expected – an actual Minecraft-themed cereal.
Given the manner in which the game has taken over the world, it was perhaps only a matter of time. But regardless of whether you love it or hate it, this Minecraft-themed cereal – the Minecraft Creeper Crunch – is available in American retailers for a limited time.
According to the cereal’s enthusiastic press release, the cereal is “tasty cinnamon-flavored” and comes in the form of “green square-shaped ‘Creeper Bit’ marshmallows”. Unlike the iconic green creepers, however, there’s no mention of the cereal spontaneously appearing in random places – so your best bet will be your local grocery store.
An eight-ounce box of Creeper Crunch is priced $3.99 while a 12.7-ounce box is $5.69. And another good thing about this cereal? It comes packed with a code that unlocks one of ten in-game Minecraft clothing items, allowing you to personalize your avatar.
Just a quick side-note – the codes only work with regular versions of the game. They won’t work on the Education Edition or the Java version.
The cereal will release on August 1 and end August 31 with all codes requiring use by the latter date.
To many, this partnership between Kellogg’s and Minecraft may not be all that surprising. After all, the sandbox-style crafting game amasses over 126 million players per month, safely cementing it in our popular culture. The game has lived on in other forms including books, clothing, foam pickaxes, and even a Lego set. There is also a yearly MineCon (this year’s of which has been cancelled until 2021 because of the pandemic).
In other words, it’s clear to more than a few people that Minecraft has gripped the world, enjoyed by both children and adults alike.
