Kevin Smith has confirmed that a sequel to the cult classic Mallrats is in the works. Production is set to start in 2016. There is no news as to whether any of the original cast will be back but there is a script being worked on.
“It’s half a script right now, and we’re pulling our loot together,” he said. “We’ve got up until the beginning of 2016. By the time we get to May 2016, we’re going to be shooting.”
The confirmation of a Mallrats sequel comes on the heels that Clerks III is in the works. That film is set to film later this year in Philadelphia followed by Hit Somebody and Moose Jaws.
For those who don’t want to wait for Clerks III and Mallrats, you can see Smith’s next film Yoga Hosers, a spin-off of his 2014 hit Tusk, sometime this year.
