House of Cards actor Kevin Spacey is making his return to movies in a low-budget Italian indie film titled L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio. This is the first time the actor is returning to film after the barrage of sexual assault and misconduct allegations that torpedoed his career, starting in 2017. According to Variety, Spacey’s involvement in the film L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio was confirmed by the movie’s producer, Louis Nero. The movie has been directed by Franco Nero, who also stars in it. Spacey will be making a cameo in a small role as a police detective.
Kevin Spacey’s return to film was first reported by ABC News on May 22. The actor’s last appearance on the big screen was in Billionaire Boys Club, released in 2018. “I’m very happy Kevin agreed to participate in my film,” Franco Nero said to ABC News. “I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the movie.”
Spacey is yet to comment on this upcoming role. The film is also expected to star Vanessa Redgrave, Franco Nero’s wife, in a small cameo as the piano teacher of the main character. The last statement released by the actor was a Christmas Eve video titled 1-800 XMAS released on Spacey’s Youtube profile in 2020. You can check out the video here:
According to the Filmitalia website, L’uomo Che Disegnò Dio is the story of “the rise and fall of a blind artist who has the extraordinary gift of making true-to-life portraits just by listening to human voices.”
Netflix dropped Spacey from his starring role as Frank Underwood in House of Cards in November 2017. This was after at least 20 young men reported allegations of sexual misconduct against the actor. Spacey came out as gay about a month before after Star Trek: Discovery actor Anthony Rapp accused him of climbing on top of Rapp in bed when the latter was 14 years old.
Later in 2018, Spacey faced yet another charge, this time for indecent assault, in Nantucket Island, Massachusets. The incident involved a teenage boy but Spacey pled not guilty and the lawsuit was later withdrawn by the alleged victim. More sexual assault claims have since been made against Spacey. Some of the alleged victims have also died, leading to their cases being dropped.
