The newly formed game developer and publisher, Keystone Games, is wasting little time making its mark on the industry, as they just announced a partnership with developer Big Fat Alien. Together, the companies will finish Fantasy First Person Shooter Rogue Islands, which is in its final stages of development.
Keystone will be bringing in its award winning team of AAA artists and programmers to help support the end stages of the game’s creation. The company’s Vice President, Jane Rachel Whittaker, talked about joining up with Big Fat Alien in a press release.
“Earlier in the year, Big Fat Alien was looking for a publisher that would be able to bring the game to market. We assessed the game and thought that, not only was it stunning to look at, but the gameplay also showed huge potential.” Whittaker stated. Rogue Islands has already become a huge community hit in pre-release and will be tremendously fun for players all around the world. It sets a whole new benchmark in the genre. We’re excited to have them onboard!”
Big Fat Alien was originally founded back in 2009 by former Lucasfilm Animation, Bioware Corp and Factor animator, Kiaran Ritchie and his wife Jasmine. The company found success with its physics-based platformer, BEEP, and soon after began creating a new FPS inspired by Minecraft.
Four years into Rogue Islands development though, Ritchie announced that he’d be returning to Bioware though. As a result, Keystone Games took over the final stages of development in conjunction with the team that worked on it.
Keystone Games is known for its charity work, and have already given out a large majority of its profits to charity. The company is also backed by major private investors. Notable celebrity Warwick Davis has also joined the company as a developer to help with storylines, providing his voice and also design. The actor has been a big fan of games his entire life, even entering game design contests with Blue Peter when he was a child.
While they are simply overseeing the final product and publishing, Rogue Islands will be the companies most notable project yet. The game will see players take on the role of a Gnome who sets out to save the world from The Corruption by destroying the five Lords of Torment
Rogue Islands, developed by Big Fat Alien and published by Keystone Games, is available now in pre-release on Steam (Rogue Islands – Steam) and will be officially released globally in September 2017.
