Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer has announced that she will star in The End We Start From, the upcoming apocalyptic thriller produced by Benedict Cumberbatch’s SunnyMarch Pictures. The film will be directed by Mahalia Belo and written Alice Birch.
Jodie Comer is most well-known for her pivotal role as Oksana Astankova, aka Villanelle, on the BBC series Killing Eve, which recently concluded on April 10, 2022. Villanelle is a skilled Russian assassin who becomes obsessed with Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), the MI6 agent tasked with capturing her. Throughout four seasons, Jodie Comer portrays Villanelle’s complicated relationships with not only Eve but also her handler Konstantin Vasiliev (Kim Bodnia) and a secretive group known as The Twelve. Comer won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress for her role in Killing Eve in 2019.
The End We Start From: Plot & Production Details
According to Deadline, The End We Start From sees London in the middle of an environmental crisis, with the streets flooded and “a young family torn apart in the chaos.” In The End We Start From, Jodie Comer is slated to play a young mother trying to get her newborn baby home while navigating the worst possible start to motherhood. The film is based on a novel by the same name by Megan Hunter, released in 2017. The film will be produced by SunnyMarch Pictures, founded by Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) in 2013. On behalf of SunnyMarch, Cumberbatch told Variety in 2017:
“Megan has crafted a striking and frighteningly real story of a family fighting for survival that will make everyone stop and think about what kind of planet we are leaving behind for our children. We’re beyond thrilled to be bringing this story to life.”
The End We Start From will be produced by Leah Clarke and Adam Ackland, also from SunnyMarch Pictures, along with Liza Marshall (Before I Go to Sleep), Sophie Hunter (Torchwood), and Amy Jackson (The Outfit). Benedict Cumberbatch and Jodie Comer will executive produce alongside Sébastien Raybaud and Cecile Gaget (Greenland) from Anton and Eva Yates (Surge) from BBC Films.
