Kingdom Hearts 3 is finally upon us! During the 2019 Soccer AFC Asian Cup, Square Enix and Tetsuya Nomura surprised fans with a new Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer to entice us up until release. The trailer is rather short, clocking in at just above 2 minutes, but packs plenty of punch. The trailer can be viewed below, but please be aware that there are no closed captions available yet for this trailer.
The trailer shows off much of what we have already seen. Frozen, Winnie the Pooh, Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story, Monsters Inc., Big Hero 6 and Tangled were all show off once again. Much of the stuff that was shown from each respective world has been seen in other Kingdom Hearts 3 trailers and features, but there are some new scenes of note to behold. One scene shows what seems to be Buzz Lightyear turning on the group, lending to the idea that this may be a copy Buzz like the ones we saw in Toy Story 2. We also see some new scenes of Captain Jack Sparrow fighting with Davy Jones, lending to the idea that that world will closely follow the story from Pirates of the Caribbean 3.
The most interesting reveal in this entire trailer is the inclusion of a brief scene at the 1:20-minute marker. For a moment we can see the new Rage Form in action. This will be familiar to fans of the series because it seems to be Kingdom Hearts 3’s version of Anti-Form, in which Sora harnesses the power of darkness to fight his foes.
Finally, the trailer closes from scenes from the Final Battle trailer that was revealed back in December. This time we get a little more to piece through as the trailer finishes off with Sora and Xehanort clashing before Sora being defiantly pushed away. It’s safe to assume that this final fight between our hero and Kingdom Hearts 3’s titular villain is shaping up to be an emotional one as we see Sora in tears.
Kingdom Hearts 3 launches on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 or Jan. 29, 2019.
