The Hollywood Reporter broke the story about a possible show centering on Jon Snow for a Game of Thrones spinoff. In his blog, author George R.R. Martin has confirmed the series with extra details, like that the idea to do a spinoff on Jon Snow was Kit Harrington coming up with the pitch.
“It seems as though Emilia Clarke has already mentioned that SNOW was Kit’s idea in a recent interview,” the author wrote about Kit Harrington on the Jon Snow spinoff. “So that part is out. Yes, it was Kit Harrington who brought the idea to us. I cannot tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since that has not been cleared for release yet… but Kit brought them in too, his own team, and they are terrific.”
The show’s working title is Snow, but nothing is set in stone. The Kit Harrington Jon Snow spinoff is currently in the early stages, like the rest of the upcoming shows, except for House of Dragon, which releases later this year on HBO Max. While most of these projects are greenlit, this one with Harrington has not been given the green light, but with the buzz going around, you never know.
“Outlines and treatments have been written and approved, scripts have been written, notes have been given, second and third drafts have been written,” Martin wrote. “So far, that’s all.”
Kit Harrington Reprises Jon Snow for a New Show
Kit Harrington played Jon Snow in all eight seasons of Game of Thrones. Despite dying, he was brought back as a surprise twist. From where the controversial finale left him off, there is room to take him in all sorts of new directions.
The sour taste people have from the original series finale puts into question how other shows will fare. House of Dragon releases on HBO Max on August 21st, so that could be the test to see where the franchise goes.
