After reports stating Lady Gaga is starring in Joker 2, officially titled Joker: Folie à Deux, the star has confirmed her role in the film. She made a tweet with the film’s title, October 2024 release date, and the song Cheek to Cheek playing as the soundtrack, which she covered in her music career.
The first report that came out of Lady Gaga starring in Joker 2 came from Variety last month. At that time, it was said she was in “early talks” to take on Harley Quinn. The teaser does not state she will be Quinn, but with the title being a nod to both a mental disorder and Joker’s companion, it is likely that she will star as the character. At the very least, she seems right for the part.

If Joker 2 features Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn, it would put her up with the other actresses who are currently portraying the character. For live-action in the DCEU, Margot Robbie has worn the makeup for Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad, James Gunn’s take on the concept that was not well received in 2016. On the side of animation, Kaley Cuoco (The Flight Attendant) voices the character in the star-studded animated series of the same name as the leading character. The series is currently on its third season.
A high bar is set for the sequel to the 2019 film. Phoenix won an Oscar for his performance in the origin story of the iconic villain. The film grossed $1 billion worldwide, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. It is just above Deadpool 2 at $785 million and Deadpool at $782 million.
Todd Phillips returns to direct and pen the script for the sequel. Joker 2 will star Lady Gaga and Phoenix in the musical sequel that releases in theaters on October 4, 2024.
