Lando’s Story Continues?
Donald Glover might be coming back to Star Wars for more than a theoretical Solo sequel. One could say fans are pretty stoked about seeing Lando again. Much like Cassian Andor before him, rumors say Lando Calrissian is to have a series of his own in the works. If so, Glover will be returning to the role for a series, not a movie, which would air on Disney Plus.
This was announced by Kessel Run Transmissions, a popular Star Wars podcast that also got the preemptive scoop on the Clone Wars spin-off series, The Bad Batch. Disney has yet to formally comment on the rumors themselves.
Glover’s busy schedule and hefty price tag might be warning signs that this is nothing but speculation. At this point in his career, he is a high-demand and expensive talent. Would he even have time for a Lando series? Would Disney be willing to pay his fee?
The Evidence
However, Disney has before paid handsomely to get Glover to work with them. They flew his entire writing team to set so they could draft the next season of Atlanta while he was working for them. The expense does not seem to be their concern when it comes to their Lando. Also, Glover was a huge fan of the role and working on Solo. He enjoyed playing the pansexual rogue, the famous frenemy of the beloved Han Solo. With the right budget and creative freedom, Glover would seem very willing to continue Lando’s story.
Considering Disney has leaned into character-driven solo series (The Mandalorian and the upcoming Cassian Andor and Obi-Wan series), a Lando adventure would certainly fit the theme. A Lando story is also very versatile, as it could follow:
- heists across the galaxy
- his many diverse romances and relationships
- his acquisition of Cloud City
- and much, much more
In their podcast, Kessel Run Transmissions theorized a possible title, too: The Calrissian Chronicles.
Other details aren’t available at this time. But if these rumors are correct, it would be one explosive way to boost public morale after the tragic cancellation and 2-year delay of August’s Star Wars Celebration. What can anybody say, Lando Calrissian is just that exciting.
