Crossovers have become so popular that procedural crime dramas on network TV are hopping on the trend. NBC is planning a major crossover event for Law & Order. The three-hour event brings the original series, Organized Crime, and Special Victims Unit, together on September 22 from 8-11 p.m. ET/PT on the network and Peacock the next day.
The story of the Law & Order event follows a mysterious girl who is shot. The murder leads to the partnering of Detective Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) and Detective Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks) to track down the killer in the first episode. Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Detective Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) assist when it is discovered this is beyond a normal murder. Jack McCoy (Sam Waterson) and ADA Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) are on a case about an international crime ring, but that interferes with the murder case.
The story will take fans from a starting point at Organized Crime to SVU to the original Law & Order.

Rick Eid (Law & Order) and Gwen Sigan (Chicago P.D.) wrote the crossover. Veterans of the franchise will be directing it. The first two hours will be helmed by Jean de Segonzac, and the final hour will be by Alex Hall.
NBC advises fans to record the special if they plan for a delayed viewing as it will not have a title sequence at the top of the show or a credit roll by the end of the 9 and 10 p.m. showings of Law & Order.
Since the 90s, Law & Order has been a staple in network TV procedural crime dramas. The three shows uniting scratch the surface as there are seven total: the original series, SVU, Organized Crime, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury, Los Angeles, and True Crime. The ones coming together are the only series in the franchise that are still running.
