Developer Riot Games has released the numbers for the monthly tournament that is the 2015 League of Legends World Championships.
All throughout October teams duked it out for competitive League of Legends supremacy. Playing across multiple European cities, selling out large venues and pulling in record-breaking streaming numbers. A total of 360 million hours was viewed by the public, by Riot’s estimates.
More impressive is the amount of online traffic the tournament created, an average of 334 million cumulative daily viewers tuning in from television or streaming platforms. That number is corroborated by the roughly 4.2 million concurrent viewers per game, across 73 total games played.
The finals alone were ground setting, with a peak concurrent viewership of over 14 million, up from last year’s 11 million. In total, 36 million fans tuned in to watch SKT and Koo Tigers battle for the highest title in LoL, also improving on last year’s 27 million when Korean powerhouse Samsung White did battle with Chinese underdogs Star Horn Royal Club for the championships.
The next major League of Legends event is All Stars 2015 in Los Angeles. Fan votes players will compete in fun competitions of 1v1 and 2v2s. Additionally, fans have voted on their favorite players from each region to mesh together, forming 2 teams. Team Fire and Team Ice will compete in exhibition matches using champions selected by the voters.
