11 years after the launch of Left 4 Dead 2, the game is still garnering serious player numbers. According to Steam Charts, the game is still sitting comfortably at 10,000 to 15,000 players consistently. The game has infinite replayability, thanks in part due to the efforts of the community. Communities are the lifeblood of older games like this, and even Valve knows this. Now, all this time later, the team is releasing a free update for the game. Left 4 Dead 2: The Last Stand releases on September 24, bringing in a lot of new content and changes to make the game feel fresh. You can find the latest reveal trailer below.
Left 4 Dead 2: The Last Stand, as the name implies, introduces The Last Stand campaign. This is a campaign that Valve created for the original Left 4 Dead, though it was scrapped prior to launch. Now, the campaign has been properly updated to be playable, and should be a lot of fun. There are maps for the game’s Survival mode based here, but also new Survival maps for other campaigns as well. Have you ever wanted to try and survive on the barge area of The Sacrifice campaign? You can do that now.
Maps aren’t the only thing coming to Left 4 Dead 2 though. You have two new melee weapons, being a shovel and pitchfork. Now you’ll finally be able to strike Chargers down with a pitchfork, which should be a lot of fun. For those who doin’t mod the game, there are also several unused weapons coming to the weapon rotation. These are mainly Counter-Strike weapons, including the SG552 and AWP. Outside of weapons, you can expect animation improvements, bug fixes, versus balancing, additional gore, and much more! We’ll have a list of patch notes on release day, so expect to see that from me soon.
This is a collaborative effort between the modding community and Valve, and thus both should be praised. I’m excited to hop back in and slay some zombies, but I’d like to hear your thoughts. Will you be jumping back into Left 4 Dead 2? Have any community mods that are your favorite? Let me, and stay tuned at The Nerd Stash for all your new, reviews, and more!
