The Legend of Zelda fans may not have to wait too long for another entry in the series. Developer Monolith Soft is currently looking to hire talent to work on an upcoming project set in The Legend of Zelda universe. Very little detail is available beyond the announcement that it is being worked on.
Monolith Soft has been intrinsically tied with The Legend of Zelda series for quite some time. The developer is most known for their work on the Xenoblade Chronicles series up until now. Their most recent title was the well-received Xenoblade Chronicles 2 for the Nintendo Switch in 2017. It is lesser known that they have been involved in co-developing three Zelda games alongside main developers at Nintendo.
Skyward Sword, A Link Between Worlds and most recently Breath of the Wild were all co-developed by Monolith Soft. It’s unclear just how involved they were on all of these titles, but we do know that Monolith played a large role in creating the world of Breath of the Wild.
On complete speculation, we can only hope that this means Monolith Soft has become close enough with Nintendo to be trusted on creating their own Legend of Zelda game. If we look to the past of Nintendo with the series, we can use Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask as a basis as to what may be happening here. Many fans have speculated that Breath of the Wild could get the same treatment. If this is to be the case, Monolith Soft could be working on the follow-up to Breath of the Wild while the core Nintendo development team could be moving onto the next big Legend of Zelda game. This is all speculation for now, but it is exciting times for the series as the remake for Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening is just around the corner!
