It seems Wally West can’t find his proper home. According to TVLine, the actor Keiynan Lonsdale won’t return as series regular for the upcoming season of Legends of Tomorrow. There has been no confirmation for the reason of the sudden decision.
It seems as though the Arrowverse can’t seem to know what to do with the character. The actor’s character was introduced in the second season of The Flash. However, the show faltered in its use of the character and Iris’ West cousin left Central City to join the Legends of Tomorrow. Following his “soul searching” across the world, the Legends recruited Wally’s help for their fight. He then became a series regular midway through the third season. It looks like the live action version of Wally can’t escape his mentor’s shadow after all.
In the comics, Wally made a better debut and even took the mantle of the Flash. After Barry Allen’s death in Crisis on Infinite Earths, Kid Flash took his former mentor’s costume in order to keep the streets of Central City safe. It took almost 23 for Barry Allen to return to the comics. During this time, Wally was able to establish himself as a person worthy of holding the mantle and some considered him the best one to have done so. In the animated Justice League that debuted on Cartoon Network back in 2001, Wally West was the one behind the mask.
Recently, Barry Allen has been the one taking over the main issues of The Flash. In fact, he was revived in 2009 in Geof Johns’ run of The Flash: Rebirth. After Barry’s return, live-action adaptations have taken more interest in adapting the Silver Age hero as their main one. Even so, some audiences consider Ezra Miller’s portrayal of the character to lean more towards West’s personality.
