The Everyone Is Awesome Lego is set for release on June 1. The newest design features of this “346-piece set” features the original colors of the rainbow as created by Gilbert Baker in 1979, “red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet.”
It also features the newly added “black and brown stripes” to represent LGBTQIA+ people of color and “light blue, pink, and white” hues to represent “the trans pride flag.” Just in time for Pride month!
This is the latest news of a company taking the initiative to be more inclusive in their messaging and for a diverse audience. For example, TourGuide Games recently partnered with The HeadStrong Project to introduce GameChanger for Vets, “[an 8-hour] charity stream for military mental health.” Playtra Games is also partnering with It Gets Better Project “to support LGBTQIA gamers through the studio’s upcoming game, Grid Force – Mask of the Goddess.“
The LGBTQIA+ community has faced many challenges when it comes to representation in media. The Everyone is Awesome Lego is one example of a well-established company using its platform to try and effect positive change. Games are a time-honored tradition and Lego is one of the most recognizable brands in the market.
In a society where LGBTQIA+ people still face discrimination and hate, Lego shows a willingness to act as allies by using their brand to create the Lego Everyone Is Awesome set and highlight marginalized people and unite all people through Lego building.

Matthew Ashton said of his design:
by having products like ‘Everyone is Awesome’ out there and people representing the LGBTQIA+ community, it allows everybody to see that things do get better over time and there is a place for everybody.”
The new design represents more than just LGBTQIA+ people. It represents the ability of gaming to unite people beyond their differences. Plus, it just looks really fun to play with! The Everyone Is Awesome Lego is available for purchase on Lego.com and “Lego-branded stores, starting at $35.”
