Hulu has announced that Lesley-Ann Brandt, star of the CW series Lucifer, will star in the pilot of History of a Pleasure Seeker, a musical based on a 2004 novel of the same name by Richard Mason. Cara Woodcock, Callum Kerr, Olumide Olorunfemi, and Bebe Bettencourt are also set to star in the pilot, which was ordered by Hulu in March 2022.
Lesley-Ann Brandt is best known for her role as the demon Mazikeen, or Maze, in Lucifer, the CW series, which premiered in 2016 and concluded in 2021. Maze was a “confidant and devoted ally” of the show’s protagonist, Lucifer Morningstar (Tom Ellis), who followed the King of Hell as he moved to Los Angeles to solve crime. Maze would initially serve as a bodyguard and bartender at Lucifer’s club before becoming a bounty hunter for the LAPD becoming the show’s first demon to grow a soul. Brandt also held a brief role as the demon Lilith, Maze’s mother and Lucifer’s ex-flame.

What We Know About “History of a Pleasure Seeker”
History of a Pleasure Seeker is a novel by author Richard Mason, originally published in 2004 and then re-published by Penguin Random House in 2012. The novel, set in Amsterdam in 1907, follows protagonist Piet Barol, described as having “an instinctive appreciation for pleasure and a gift for finding it.” After his mother dies, Piet is driven to apply for a job as a tutor of ten-year-old Egbert, the agoraphobic son of wealthy hotel owner Maarten Vermeulen-Sickerts and his wife, Jacobina. Throughout the novel, Piet must not only convince Egbert to come out of his shell but also free his parents from the restraints of their repressed lives through music and other debauchery.
Lesley-Ann Brandt is slated to play Jacobina in the one-hour pilot of History of a Pleasure Seeker on Hulu. Callum Kerr (Four Wedding and a Funeral) will play Piet himself, while Cara Woodcock (Free Rein) and Bebe Bettencourt (The Dry) portray Maarten and Jacobina’s two daughters, Constance and Louisa. Olumide Olorunfemi (Venom: Let There Be Carnage) will play Sisanda, a South African woman coming to terms with her drastic change in status from the most popular girl in her village to a house cleaner.
According to Deadline, Julie Robinson is set to direct History of a Pleasure Seeker. Robinson and Richard Mason will serve as the pilot’s executive producers, along with Michael Gracey (The Greatest Showman) and Jimmy Mulville from Hat Trick Productions.
History of a Pleasure Seeker will be premiering on Hulu, though a release date has not been released yet.
