Life is Strange Season 1 has just come to an end, but the development of Life of Strange Season 2 has already begun.
Developer Dontnod confirmed the development of Season 2 in an interview with French outlet Alchimy. Developer Co-founder Alain Damasio in the interview said he “worked as the script doctor on Season 1,” and will contribute to Season 2 in a similar role.
It’s worth noting that the game’s publisher is Square Enix. The company may have been pleased enough with the commercial sales of the game to push forward a sequel, as critical reception has been mixed. While the game received praise for tackling issues not normally examined in video games, such as puberty, but also received criticism for lack of characterization, and it’s engine on current generation consoles.
The French developer has already stated that, if they develop a sequel, they will focus on entirely new characters, but keep the same overall theme, similar to anthology series Fargo or True Detective.
It’s an intriguing move, as Square Enix obviously sees the value in decision-based narrative games. Maybe the publisher thinks the developer can tighten up the graphics and polish the narrative, and they might have a sizeable hit on their hands.
