In 2014, Lifeless Planet saw gamers don their space suits for a distant rock in the universe. The key concept to the game was that upon arrival, the planet appeared to have been previously inhabited by the Soviets, a hangover from cold war paranoia. The team behind Lifeless Planet have now revealed the game’s spiritual successor, Lifeless Moon.
Lifeless Moon once again has gamers controlling an Apollo era astronaut, this time a little closer to home, on earth’s moon. This time there are no Soviet installations to be seen but perhaps, something far stranger is afoot.  While on the moon’s surface you’ll find yourself coming in contact with a familiar town that your brain knows is back on terra firma earth.
Lifeless Moon is now the subject of a Kickstarter campaign.  The Kickstarter announcement states that a playable BETA for the game is expected before the end of 2017.  The full game should be released in 2018.  The gameplay is described as, ” light platforming and a deeper focus on puzzles than in Lifeless Planet. The core game-play experience is one of exploration and discovery, complementing the mysterious and psychological themes of the story.” The campaign is trying to raise funds of $17,000 to complete the game.  The rationale for the amount requested is that that is what was raised in the Kickstarter for Lifeless Planet and the developer feels they can deliver a finished product like they did before.
The game is being developed to support virtual reality although that will not be a requirement to play. Those partaking in VR can expect first person perspective puzzles. Those puzzles will be third person if VR is not employed. Â Developer Stage 2 Studios also indicates that the story will involve environments beyond the “moon city”, plenty of collectibles and voice acting (which is not always a guarantee with indie titles).
