RHOBH star Lisa Rinna dropped the bombshell news of her exit from the show on Thursday, weeks after her husband, Harry Hamlin, spoke up in her defense. The 71-year-old actor, who graced this week’s issue of People to discuss his upcoming projects, Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches and 80 for Brady, discussed his wife’s run on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
According to him, Lisa had a troubled run on the Bravo series due to her brutal honesty. Her desire to always tell the truth without mincing words eventually became her bane, earning her criticism from the other housewives. He divulged:
“Her hot button issue, I suppose, is injustice, or when somebody else is not behaving honestly, she’ll call it out. And that gets into a lot of trouble. But it also helps the show.”
Lisa Rinna’s Husband Thinks Honesty Is Part Of The Job
Despite most people’s aversion to Lisa Rinna’s brutal honesty, her husband believed that was exactly what the show needed. He explained how his wife never fell short of her contractual expectations throughout her eight-season run, saying:
“She does her job. Her job is to show up on time, interact with the people on the show in an honest and authentic way.”
The actor went on to clear the air about his wife’s reputation on the show as a liar. Defending the reality star, Harry pointed out that honesty was her strong point, and he never knew her to tell a lie since meeting her over three decades ago. Contrariwise, Lisa always stood by the truth and never uttered “something that wasn’t absolutely and honestly true,” both on and off the screen.
Hence, having viewers and her co-housewives label Lisa Rinna a liar on RHOBH long before her exit was simply a misconception he paid no heed to. For him, knowing and understanding the truth about his wife’s personality was enough, as he understood she could not possibly please everyone. The star shared:
“There’s always going to be 50 percent of the people who like you, 50 percent of the people who hate you. I think the like-hate factor is much more — like 80 percent people like Lisa, 20 percent don’t.”
Indeed, Lisa Rinna has faced major backlash since joining RHOBH in its fifth season, which premiered in 2014. Her appearance on Season 12 especially came with major drama, from her confrontation with Sutton Stracke over Elton John’s annual charity benefit tickets to her brawl with Kathy Hilton during the season 12 reunion.
Fans have also said their bits, accusing her of not properly memorializing her mom after her death and of leveraging on Kathy’s Aspen girls’ trip meltdown. Yet, Lisa Rinna kept her head held high throughout her RHOBH run, eventually announcing her exit with pride as she excitedly looks forward to what the future holds.
