Lizzo, born Melissa Viviane Jefferson, released her debut hip-hop album, Lizzobangers, in 2013. In 2015, Lizzo released her second studio album, Big Grrrl Small World, which focused on body image and the universal truths that connect people. After signing with Atlantic Records in 2016, she released her first major-label EP, Coconut Oil, with the hit single “Good as Hell” being featured in Barbershop: The Next Cut (2016), starring Ice Cube. Lizzo embarked on the Good as Hell Tour in 2017 to promote the Coconut Oil and was also given the opportunity to tour with pop band HAIM and Florence and the Machine in early 2018.
In 2019, Lizzo made her acting debut as the voice of Lydia in UglyDolls, appearing alongside Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, and other big names in Hollywood. In January of the same year, she released her third album Juice followed by her fourth album, Cuz I Love You, in April 2019. Cuz I Love You, with its hit single Truth Hurts, catapulted Lizzo into the mainstream, with the album hitting fourth place on the Billboard Top 200 charts. Lizzo’s latest album, Special, will be released in July 2022, though it was preceded by a sneak peek at the song “About Damn Time,” which was released in April.
