Logan Lerman has been officially announced as the latest addition to We Were The Lucky Ones, an upcoming Hulu limited series based on a bestseller novel by Georgia Hunter. Fresh off of a role in Bullet Train alongside Brad Pitt, the Hulu series will see Lerman reunited with Joey King, who he starred alongside in Bullet Train.
We Were The Lucky Ones takes its inspiration from a 2017 novel of the same name, in which bestselling author Georgia Hunter tells the story of the Kurc family, Polish Jews fighting to survive in the darkest days of the Holocaust. When the family is cast out and scattered by the war, the five Kurc siblings – Jakob, Addy, Mila, Genek, and Halina – are forced to do “everything they can to find their way through a devastated continent to freedom,” per the official book synopsis.
Logan Lerman, best known for his roles in the Percy Jackson movies and The Perks of Being a Wallflower, has been confirmed to star in the Hulu limited series as Addy, the 25-year-old “middle child” of the Kurc family who makes a living in Paris as an engineer while fostering a budding career as a musician. Describing the character, Deadline reports that “He has an ability to find common ground with dissimilar people and a talent to fix anything.” Addy’s character is reportedly based on author Georgia Hunter’s grandfather during the 1930s.
Who Is Logan Lerman in ‘We Were The Lucky Ones’?
Logan Lerman got his breakout acting role as the wise-cracking, lovable protagonist Percy Jackson in Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief (2010) and its sequel, Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters (2013). The pair of movies, directed by Chris Columbus, saw Rick Riordan’s best-selling fantasy series adapted on-screen for the first time, thus giving Logan Lerman the role of the first real-life Percy Jackson. Though the movies are widely regarded as flops today, and the series was not continued beyond two movies, it was enough of a launching point for Lerman’s later acting career.
Following his breakout role, Logan Lerman would later portray Charlie Kelmeckis, a teenager struggling to make friends under the burden of undiagnosed PTSD, in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012). Lerman would be joined by Emma Watson (Beauty and the Beast) as Samantha “Sam” Button and Ezra Miller (The Flash) as Patrick Stewart, Sam’s stepbrother. Some of Lerman’s other notable roles include Marcus Messner in James Schamus’ Indignation (2016), The Son in Sony’s Bullet Train (2022), and Jonah Heidelbaum in the Amazon drama series Hunters (2022).
We Were The Lucky Ones would be produced by 20th Television, with television writer Erica Lipez (Bates Motel) serving as the series’ writer, showrunner, and executive producer alongside director and executive producer Thomas Kail (Hamilton) and Adam Milch (The Morning Show). Georgia Hunter, author of the original novel, will also serve as a co-executive producer alongside Jennifer Todd for Old 320 Sycamore (Fiddler on the Roof).
